For years, I told clients, “Don’t waste your money on boosting posts.” Back then, it was true—boosted posts would only reach your existing followers, which made it feel pointless. Why spend money to reach people who are already following you?
Buttttt now I’ve changed my mind. In fact, boosting posts is now one of my go-to strategies. Why?
Well, first, the algorithm has shifted dramatically. Organic reach isn’t what it used to be. Fewer people see your posts without some kind of push. Secondly, the tools for boosting have expanded in ways that are actually helpful to our clients’ goals.
So, when do I recommend boosting? Usually, it’s when my client’s want to grow their follower count. These are my two go-to tools:
1. Facebook Page Likes
Ever feel like you’re posting into a void on your Facebook page? Boosting posts can help you target specific people who are more likely to care about what you’re sharing. I love using this strategy to invite people to like a page. It’s like a gentle nudge—“Hey, check us out!”—and you can reach those who may not have seen your content otherwise.
2. Instagram Visit Profile
While Instagram doesn’t have an option to directly invite people to follow you, boosting a post can put you on their radar. When you boost a post, you’re essentially inviting them to check out your profile. If they like what they see, they may decide to stick around. It’s a soft sell that feels more organic than buying followers.
Now, let me be clear—we are not buying followers here. I have not changed my mind about that!
I’m all about keeping things authentic. The beauty of this follower growth strategy is that it’s not about inflating numbers with random people who won’t engage. Instead, we’re putting good content in front of people who are actually interested and letting them decide if they want to follow along. It’s more like opening the door for them to discover your business.
So yes, I’ve changed my mind. Boosting posts has evolved from being a money-waster to a smart (and easy) way to get in front of your target audience. It’s not about throwing cash at every post, but about being strategic and inviting new people into your space.
When done right, it works.
